Types of Massage
Neuromuscular Therapy
A very specialized form of manual therapy that is used to address five elements that cause pain:
- Ischemia
- Trigger Points
- Nerve Compression or Entrapment
- Postural Distortions
- Biomechanical Dysfunctions
The therapist applies static pressure and friction to dissolve knots, trigger points, tightness and inflammation from anywhere in the body.
Neuromuscular Therapy increases the blood circulation and lymph flow throughout the muscular system by micro-stretching the muscles and tendons. This allows for increased range-of-motion and muscular flexibility.
The tenderness, improved strength and endurance, and deeper sleep. In addition, rejuvenated muscles are less likely prone to future injury.
Swedish Massage
The most prominent example of traditional European massage and the most commonly used method in the United States. It uses five main strokes to stimulate the circulation of blood through the body;
effleurage (gliding strokes),
Petrissage (kneading strokes),
friction,
tapotement (percussion), and
vibration on the more superficial layers of muscles. It is intended to relax muscles, improve circulation, eliminate waste products, reduce swelling, relieve muscle spasm and pain, speed healing after injury and calm the nervous system.
